Illustrations from Amy Smilovic of Tibi's sketchbook
Such endearing illustrations from Amy’s sketchbook on Tibi’s blog. Hope your Valentine’s Day is looking lovely!

Pieces like this make me wish I had taken up illustration, but I’m better off admiring those who can do it far better than I ever could. Like Filipino designer and illustrator Dan Matutina who created the Moon Sonata wallpaper for Kitsune Noir. [via]

OMG at the paper-cut pieces that Brittney Lee created for Nucleus‘ Peck N’ Paw exhibition. So dainty and pretty, but daring in form and color. Do check her blog for more of her work – it is all kinds of amazing.

There’s never enough time in the world, especially during, and in spite of, these long hot summer days. If you’ve been following me long enough, you’ll know that plaid is one of my favorite warm weather fabrics. This illustration by Bil Donovan sums up what I want these next couple of months to be perfectly.

Deanne Cheuk has a plethora of amazing and intricately detailed illustrations and type work (not surprising that she was already an art director at 19!), but I am drawn to this pattern in particular, which was used in Sue Stemp’s Spring 2007 collection.

Dying!! InStyle got designers to sketch their vision of Bella’s 1900s-style wedding dress from the Twilight saga. I personally envisioned the dress to look closest to Max Azria’s, but I really love Erin Fetherston’s sweetly soft version and think Lela Rose’s is perfect for Kristen Stewart’s tiny frame. Plus how fantastic would the rose and cream shades look on her porcelain skin?
And I had to include a picture of Zac Posen’s just because it looks so freakin’ fun to wear.

I totally missed this exhibit’s opening this weekend, but the La Femme show will still be around until June 3 at Gallery Nucleus. The women’s only group show includes work by much-blogged-about illustrator Stina Persson and other equally talented female illustrators. This particular piece – Tra La La by Clio Chiang (already sold out!) – caught my eye on the website. So pretty and cheery!

I recently came across Sophie Griotto’s site and it was the first time in quite awhile that a creative find made me smile. Her work is such a breath of fresh air – uncontrived, uncontrolled, and understated in the best ways possible. And just plain freakin’ fun and happy. You can tell this girl loves what she does.

Thought I should spread the word on this project that hits close to home, quite literally. I was up in the Bay Area when the California wildfires hit – though I was thankfully not directedly affected by them, it was devastating to pick up the Oakland paper and see the map of the fires practically surround L.A. county and wonder if we were going to be next.
The So-Cal Fire Poster Project has teamed up with a bunch of talented designers and artists to raise funds for victims of the wildfires by selling limited edition posters like the ones above, done by Modern Dog and Rule29. It’s wonderful to see fellow creatives donate their talents towards a good cause.

Speaking of minimalism.. I find this image so inspiring and creatively fitting for the beginning of a new year. It’s so Stinna Persson-esque in its sensuality, but with a pared down Japanese aesthetic. Check out Ohgushi’s website for more prettily painted gals, including work for Pucci.

These are hilarious. Illustrator Linzie Hunter has ingeniously decided to start a series hand-lettering spam subject lines. {via}
